Harper Makes Big Splash in Free Agency Signing....

It finally happened everyone! Bryce Harper finally made his decision and sold his soul to a franchise until basically he's on his last leg playing ball at the age of 38.  He signed a 13 year deal with the Phillies.  This locks him up for all of his prime and his decline for the remainder of his career because he got the no-trade clause and money he was looking for.  He signed for a whopping 330-million dollars.  Just an absolutely absurd amount of money like his young counterparts Arenado and Machado signed for these past few weeks.  This basically set the gold standard for Mike Trout in his future free agency signing period.  The kids playing today are drooling over becoming the next big time star like these guys to get locked up with job security and the ability to make 30 plus million a year and compete for championships.
Its truly a nation wide phenomenon watching how much baseball players can get paid nowadays.  Play baseball kids, play baseball. Everyone who reads this blog post please do your future offspring a favor and teach them to hit baseballs really hard and really far, or teach them to throw a baseball 100 plus miles per hour and get remotely close to the strike zone because they can buy a small country with these kids of deals these guys are getting nowadays.
Bryce has a WAR (wins above replacement) over his career of 7.7, which is a very good and important stat is baseball today.  Now if we look at this WAR earning him 330-million dollars, then we must also look at what the biggest and most talented name in baseball will be signing for.  Mike Trout has a WAR of 27.5 over his short career.  This means that if you compare Bryce vs. Mike then Mike should be paid 1.3-billion dollars over the next 13 years when he goes into free agency next season.  Can you even imagine?! Being paid over a billion dollars to play baseball for 13 years, what a dream come true right? Now we know this wont actually happen but if you base it off stats, which baseball is a highly analytical sport now, then in retrospect Mike should basically be elected President and also given a billion dollars.  What a world we live in where playing a sport can make you a billionaire.  Man i love sports and how this world is trending in the entertainment business of sports.

  1. The no opt outs and no trade clause means he's locked in and that is just a terrible career move. We'll see how well they do this year and going forward, plus when Trout's contract is up, let's if Philly makes a play.
